New in the shop

Well, after moving home and studio, it has taken a while to unpack and find everything! Here now are a few new items in my shop...

The first is 'The Attached Spool', above. An antique spool of hand spun linen which has become mysteriously attached to a long couronne chain.

These chains are found in the Italian technique called Casalguidi stitch, a branch of stumpwork techniques, and are made using a couronne stick. The beauty of them is that the rings are properly linked together which inspired me to try attaching them to existing objects.

Next are two hand stitched ring brooches. They are both early 20thC. pieces in brass or silver coloured metal, one has couronne style embroidery and the other a little needlelace edge.

All can be found on my shop HERE

Little morsels

I've just added several rings and brooches to my french knot embroidered range. These join the other hand embroidered brooches and buttons now on my Etsy shop.
For some of the brooches I have used a hand treated devore velvet and only embroidered into the gaps. This was an excuse to use some of the rayon threads from Stef  Francis that I have been hoarding as the sheen of the rayon went perfectly with the velvet.
The rings use some of the beautiful Gloriana silks that I have a particular passion for.

There are also some of my newer range of buttons with raised work on them inspired by rocks and moss.

..and lastly a new colour way for the 1930's inspired flower border range.... a dark blue delphinium!

Ruskin rings

Whilst away last year in Cumbria I was lucky enough to see some Ruskin pottery .This Arts and Crafts pottery has lovely blended colours but my favourites were the little brooches made from the same ceramic simply known as 'Ruskins'. These turn up in expensive antique jewellers now so I thought I'd see how they might be in embroidery ! My Etsy shop has five in various colours.......

Auction

This needlelace piece will be up for auction at the Art Workers' Guild soon. It is a wired edge feather, coiled around to form a choker style neck piece. I have worked it in various shades of silk and rayon, the edge being beaded. The fastening at the back is a simple drop chain with a green glass bead as the weight.
All the auction details can be found on the flyer below or here at the Guild website. Our most illustrious member was of course William Morris but also Arthur Rackham, J.W. Waterhouse and Edward Burne Jones amongst many other remarkable artists and crafts people. We believe in art for all and that art is good for you !!!! Today we have master practitioners from every field of the arts and crafts movement plus surgery and engineering.
Here is our new Tumblr site.

Pingle rings

As one who likes to embroider on the go....in the garden ,on the train, in the car..... I have needed somewhere safe for my needles ! I usually end up wearing them and then forgetting so when I was making some of my pin cushion buttons recently I wondered if  rings would work and they do ! I was given a lovely little stash of old Liberty print remnants so here they are ! On etsy packaged in their own little domes..£10

and here are the buttons. These will be at the Knit and Stitch show in October.

p.s. if any of you want to see a spectacular stumpwork casket pop along to The Queens Gallery to see this

..so many leaves !! It doesn't get out very often and has to be seen to be believed. There are also some beautiful tudor jackets in the show , french knot heaven.

Munstead Wood

Another of my new pieces ,a pendant. This one was inspired by the colour of one of my roses , the David Austin rose 'Munstead Wood'. It is such a dark red and smells so good , I have been making rose water all week for my hair ! The pendant is all done in french knots on green silk linen. There is another version too which looks like the centre of  an opium poppy( in the same colour) just click on the etsy link or go to
The Glass Pingle at etsy from here.

Knit and Stitch Show 2012 part three

Nearly ready for the show (11th-14th October) ! I have redesigned some popular buttons and stumpwork pieces as jewellery....the faery moss is now even smaller and fits on your finger.

The earwig mystery can now be pondered whilst typing.

The stumpwork moths have left the garden and settled here with their dewdrop bodies glistening .

In case you forget the sound of the nightingale , Keats will remind you.

Valentines and other beloveds

I have been making a few new pieces for sale on Etsy..... old lockets and fob watches filled with mementos ,lace and embroidery and a little haberdashery ring . Inspired by the watch
in 'Little Dorrit' I have collected together old pieces that I could add to. Then I added some of my embroidery together with fragments of old lace or paste brooches. The sentimental jewellery of this era is a great source of inspiration to me and , as ever, what I can't afford I make instead !!!!
